A woman was shot by an officer in the 5300 block of Clay Terrace, about 9 miles east of the White House on Saturday, and transported to a local hospital.
The shooting occurred around 6 p.m. near the location of a fire that was reported earlier that afternoon, officials said.
D.C. Police Chief Kathy Lanier said the woman was armed with knives and when police told her to drop them, she refused. The woman continued walking towards the officer. Lanier said the officer fired one shot and then the woman was handcuffed.
